2008 Porsche 911 still has a 5 speed auto box? Oh dear…

5 speed boxWhen Porsche launched its 997 range in 2005, they decided to temporarily use their old outdated 5 speed auto box for the car. Everybody was hoping that the advanced DSG-style gearbox was in a very late stage of development and was going to make it to the market in 2006 at the latest.

Now it is 2008 and Porsche still keeps shipping their cars with crappy 5 speed gearboxes. To remind you, this is at a time when Lexus uses 8 speed and Mercedes-Benz 7 speed automatics. Relatively small and light sports car with a high revving engine might make a good use of a nice close-ratio 7 speed gearbox.
Question is, whether the decision has truly been driven by need of additional time for honing the new gearbox or whether Porsche´s accountants made it to squeeze as much extra money from the old hardware as possible.
It wouldn’t actually be the first time when Porsche would postpone market launch of a car simply because it thought the old one was doing reasonably good. One has to bear in mind Porsche is the most profitable company in the world and is managed with perfectly measured aggression towards the market in order to squeeze every extra dollar lying around there even if it means massive fluctuations of production as the demand drops sharply when trying to sell overdue models.

    Необходимо сделать сайт. Форумы, чаты и тому подобное не нужно. Хочу получить качественную вёрстку, именно качественную, а то в дримвивере и сама могу. Дизайн готов, а остальное за вами.
